Freedom Tour- National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

National Underground Freedom Center

Audissey Media

The National Underground Freedom Center has launched a smartphone mobile guide which uses mobile apps to capture the stories and struggle of the fight for freedom. The app is built on the mobile platform called 'TourSphere' which allows users to upload, manage, update and design mobile apps - no developer or programer needed. The power and flexibility of the platform is unmatched in the museum and cultural field.

300 iPods were loaded, programed and enclosed in custom cases to meet the needs of visitors without smartphones (see photos below).

Travelling through time, visitors will meet the heroes of the Underground Railroad such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Levi Coffin, and many others, and their compelling stories are told through the many voices of history. The overall narration is delivered by Judy Richardson, a civil rights activist and award winning producer.

The struggle for freedom has changed the lives of millions, and it has generated courage and sacrifice in people who have become heroes simply because of their desire to make a difference in the world, both past and present. The new iPod tour will enhance the visitor experience to the Freedom Center, and it inspires a whole new generation of "Freedom Conductors" who can make a difference for the cause of freedom.
