Developing Dynamic Visitors Guides, Floor plans, Mobile Navigation and Location Awareness

Abstract

Workshop examines the processes to identify visitors’ navigation and interpretation needs; and develop and deploy dynamic wayfinding, mapping, tours and visitor guides. Attendees will review the American Museum of Natural History Explorer implementation as a case study. Members of the Museum’s Digital Media department, Networking/IT department and the Museum’s development partner, Spotlight Mobile will share how they developed and deployed the Explorer iPhone app.

Workshop includes a review of the technical steps necessary to deploy location awareness including WI-FI access, CISCO MSE, data interpretation, routing and content management. The workshop will also review options for Museums to create tours, floor plans and dynamic visitor guide content with minimal effort through the Meridian web based editor.
