Why

Yorkshire's Favourite Paintings brings together art collections from 24 museums and galleries, and asks members of the public to pick their favourite and share why they like it and where they would hang it.

A number of participants will be seleted to win replica paintings, so that they can hang them where they wish.

The website brings social media functionality in to the website, by inviting the public to post their favourites, comment and like stories. It also makes use of Facebook Connect to posts a users favourite on to their wall automatically.

What is really important about this website is that it not only creates dialogue around art, but that it offers people who may not normally think art is for them, an alternative access point to browse the collections of these galleries based on these personal stories.

The website is attracting on average ten new comments about why painting have been selected as favourites each day, and the success of the project has led to funding to develop the website further over the coming year.
