Why

ALMA links pre-industrial artefacts with works of arts (prints, paintings etc.) In order to study the use of artefacts, to date works of arts etc. in the pre industrial period.

The museum has large collections of art and large collections of artefacts. Both collections were linked in an old archival system. This system had gone out of use and was inaccessible. By digitizing 4.000 pieces of art and 15.000 artefacts Boijmans has created a large study collection online.

The museum also made the collections available for amateurs by mapping all artefacts on the works of art so anyone can study each individual artefact on every work of art.
