In 2008 the formerly Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN, now part of the Netherlands Cultural Heritage Agency / RCE) launched Collectiewijzer (Collection Guide/Wizzard), a (dutch) platform for and about conservation, collection management, indemnity, deaccessioning, restoration and more. Although the platform was carefully designed, it suffered shortly after the launch of numerous defects (bugs) and appeared to be quickly overtaken by new developments and insights. Almost nobody visited the platform or contributed by sharing knowledge or experience. In 2009/2010 ICN decided to reinvent the platform, openly admitting that it had previously failed. With a team of only 2 persons, an intern and a webmaster, ICN dared to take the risk of transforming the platform tot a social media network, using wordpress, mediawiki, linkedin, scribd, twitter, slideshare. With almost no budget the network was quietly relaunched, four months later in 2010. And it works.
