The CCCB LAB is a new department of the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) dedicated to research, transformation and innovation in the cultural sphere, which dedicates special attention to the evolution of genres and formats and which works transversally with the other departments of the company. The CCCB LAB is the result of a series of creative, adaptive and productive processes that have defined the CCCB since its inauguration in 1994. It is the potentiation of a tradition of freedom, innovation and porosity that characterizes the evolution of the CCCB by means of exhibitions, debates, seminars, congresses, publications, festivals, work platforms, archives and new formats. The CCCB LAB is a project of the CCCB within a complex, mixed and changing cultural scene where culture, art, science, information and knowledge are becoming the backbone of a new world, a new economy and a new society.

On the International Internet Day, we open the new CCCB LAB blog, aimed to be a place where you can keep up with the transformations that are taking place at the CCCB, and at cultural institutions in general. We have chosen categories as a way to try and classify the major areas of research, and progress and developments as they happen.

We would like you to understand this blog as a friendly site where you can explore, discover and share the internal rhythm of a cultural laboratory and the challenges of an I + D + i aimed to deepen on the mutation of genres and formats, the process of virtualization of cultural centers, the activation of local and international networks, the exciting work on 2.0 dynamics, the demands of an audience that has become contributor, bricoleur, and co-creator, the debate on virtual exhibitions and meta-exhibitions presentations, project incubation processes , the change in the methodologies of work, the unexpected findings, errors, criticism and self-criticism. All of it with the conviction that we all know something, but nobody knows everything, so it is necessary to nurture and encourage horizontal open and collaborative creativity.

We will try to make CCCB LAB a warm and intense node connected to the paradigm change that we are experiencing. There are new territories for a new cultural praxis. It is a workflow that allows us to adapt to the speed of change, without forgetting that real innovation requires time, resources, a large choral work and a persistent desire of amplification. Reality augments. Always.
