Why

The website for the Asia Society Museum exhibition Yoshitomo Nara, Nobody's Fool is noteworthy for a number of reasons. First, the overall graphic design of the site is based on an aesthetic that is present in much of Nara's work, in particular the large room-size wooden installations he has built many times in his career, several of which were part of the Asia Society show.

The site was also designed to appear to a younger audience that the typical Asia Society audience, with dynamic content that would evolve during the duration of the exhibition. A blog component was used to document and promote an "open studio" where the artist assembled part of the exhibition and social media elements (twitter feed, flickr group, Facebook and foursquare) were prominently featured.
Other significant aspects were the use of VR photography, curator and artist's videos, a music player with songs from the artist's music collection, the Asia Society's first ever iPhone app and a Japanese language page for the artist's many fans in that country.
This website was a significant departure for the usually traditional Asia Society and was quite successful, with more than 200,000 visits during the run of the exhibition. The first 2 weeks after launch, nearly 40% of traffic to the site came from twitter!
