Rijksmuseum van Oudheden (Dutch National Museum of Antiquities)
The Dutch National Museum of Antiquities (Rijksmuseum van Oudheden) is the national centre of archaeology where the audience can appreciate the cultures of ancient Egypt, the Near East, the classical world and the early Netherlands.
The website presents the museum collections and exhibitions in an interactive way by means of timelines, Google Maps, Zoomify galleries and audiotours. At the moment these elements are available in the Dutch version only.
Highlights Timeline (www.rmo.nl/collectie/topstukken)
The timeline lets you scroll the highlights of the museum's collections in a visual way. The four main cultures are presented in a parallel view. Objects can be zoomed to see the finest detail.
Exhibition Google Maps (www.rmo.nl/actueel/tentoonstellingen/het-egypte-van-flaubert and www.rmo.nl/actueel/tentoonstellingen/terracotta)
Museum exhibitions like The Egypt of Gustave Flaubert and Terracotta are accompanied by a Google map showing the relevant locations, such as the travels of Flaubert or the provenance of terracotta objects. Exhibitions also have an highlights gallery using Zoomify.
Collection Search (www.rmo.nl/collectie/zoeken)
Apart from the interactive presentations, a large part of the collection is available in the online collection database.
Audiotours (www.rmo.nl/kids/audiotours)
For children, audiotours featuring a well-know Dutch tv-presenter are available for download.
