Prehistoric Climate Change and Why It Matters Today, Online Interactive

Conference:
MW2010
Institution:
Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies
Designer:
Design Army
Why:

This online interactive simulation combines math and science to allow young people to understand the work of a real Smithsonian scientist and to model the actual work he does to explore a distant period of global climate change that has implication for our understanding of what our own future might hold.

This is also an experiment in the evolution of a printed teacher lesson plan series that has been in continual publication for more than 30 years. The challenge was to bridge the formal educational activities contained in the lesson to an informal setting, directly for use by students, in or out of the classroom. http://www.smithsonianeducation.org/educators/less...
