Popped!

mintsource, the Whitworth Art Gallery's programme of informal activities for young people, commissioned Popped! for the exhibition “Neverland: Rediscovering Child Art?”

Popped! is an online archive of fan-art spanning the last fifty years of pop culture as viewed by the eyes of teenagers then and now. Popped! was also exhibited in the gallery itself and included the Popped!Lounge series of creative workshops.

Popped! can be navigated via a “traditional” gallery or innovative “star map” interface. Visitors can claim a “star” in the galaxy by signing up and uploading their own artwork. Artworks are searchable by decade, medium, subject or artist’s name/age.
