National Museum of American History on Twitter

Conference:
MW2010
Institution:
National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution
Designer:
in-house
Why:

The Smithsonian brings American history and national treasures to life, one tweet at a time.  The museum takes events that happened on this day in history and connects them to the unique, treasured objects in their collections.  The bite-size facts, linking our experiences today with artifacts of the past, are popular and retweeted often.  In addition, the museum uses Twitter to follow up with people who have visited, soliciting insightful and timely feedback from their audiences on a daily basis.  A conversational style and a bit of humor highlight the human side of an institution that can sometimes feel distant and unapproachable.
