Joseph Cornell: Navigating the Imagination

Conference:
MW2008
Institution:
Peabody Essex Museum
Designer:
In-house
Why:

This was an interpretive web exploration of the artist Joseph Cornell created for the Peabody Essex Museum in conjunction with their major retrospective of his work. Our hope was to get into the psyche of the artist and explore the website as an educational tool and also as an art experience by mixing animation, games, and other surreal instances. We intended this for a general audience with curiosity being the only prerequisite for entry. Working with curator Lynda Hartigan we decided to take this rich media web approach to Cornell due to the lack of other available experiences and also how Cornell's work naturally linked to the web.The budget for this site was under 5k.
