Why:

The Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) is a research centre and museum with an international collection, program, and audience. To pursue its mission and encourage research in architecture, design, and the built environment, the CCA aims to act as a laboratory with an archive that is both object- and event-based. Launched to the public in July 2009, the new website gives users unprecedented access to the CCA’s research and Collection alongside its current and past exhibitions and educational activities.

The website employs a contextual approach to navigation, placing emphasis on content and its research potential, regardless of its source or date of publication, and also offers users the possibility of serendipitous discovery.

The site includes Calendar and Browse functions to support goal-oriented navigation. The powerful Search tool shows combined results from the website, separate collection databases, and Bookstore. Users are presented with summary results that link to more in-depth records and finding aids within the collection databases for advanced research. In addition, hundreds of new texts and media highlighting objects have been created to showcase the diversity of the CCA Collection, and offer multiple entry points for casual visitors as well as advanced researchers. The CCA Recommends section showcases content from around the world with links to external sites and resources that are considered of interest to our audience.

With new content published every day, the website offers an innovative platform for research, exploring the relationship between the CCA’s exhibitions, programs, and Collection as well as with activities occurring in the international sphere.
