Nancy Proctor
Growing up in her stepmother's contemporary art gallery while a student at The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, Dr. Nancy Proctor has long nurtured a duel passion for art and computing. Her first involvement with a new media start-up company came in 1985, when she joined a Geographic Information Systems software company as director of technical publications while studying for a BA in art history and classics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After pursuing post-graduate studies in feminist theory and Latin at the University of Leeds and the Gregorian University in Rome respectively, she began making short films and videos. Nancy has exhibited her work in UK art galleries and won first place in the 1993 FORUMBHZ International Video Competition in Brazil for her video, Penelope. Nancy also worked as a university lecturer, curator and critic throughout her MA and PhD studies, publishing extensively in art and academic journals in Italy, the UK, and the US. With Titus Bicknell, Nancy started her first IT consultancy company, Pink ink., in 1997. After receiving her Ph.D. in art history from the University of Leeds in 1998, the pair founded The Gallery Channel, the UK's leading art information portal and content syndicate. Still a director of The Gallery Channel, Nancy joined Antenna Audio in 2000 as their new business development manager, charged with developing the company's new media initiative.
