Session: Demo Sessions 1

The Pacific Asia Museum holds a significant collection of Chinese ceramics, representing more than 2,000 years of production. The collection has been digitally catalogued and will be accessible online in early 2001 for use by educators, scholars, and collectors. It represents the first phase of a three-year project, funded by the Getty Grant Program's Los Angeles Electronic Catalogue Initiative, to create electronic access to the museum's entire permanent collections. To complement the ceramics database, educational materials have been developed that are tied to the national and California state history and social science curriculum frameworks. These materials target middle school students studying Chinese history and include narratives that provide a cultural and historical context for selected ceramics as well as discussion questions, activities, and background information.
