Hello.

Many firsts... first time posting here, first time creating a museum kiosk, and first time using the platform of Ren'py to create anything. Thought I'd post to introduce the project I worked on and get feedback of a general sort.

Here's a link to where you can download a copy of the executable standalone kiosk proto-type (for Mac and Windows): http://www.ethnosproject.org/home/index.php?catego...

It is called the Storytelling Station - an interactive museum kiosk. It was designed for a small not-for-profit in Greenfield Center, New York called the Ndakinna Education Center. It provides an interactive introduction to storytelling and the Native American oral traditions of the Northeast. Participants learn about storytelling by:

  • experiencing video interviews and recorded performances with storytellers from the Abenaki, Mohawk, and other northeastern Nations,
  • reading and listening to excerpts of audio recordings,
  • and interacting with a navigable kiosk interface.

The platform with which the kiosk was created is Ren'py, "a free and cross-platform visual novel engine that helps you use words, pictures, and sounds to tell stories with the computer" - info available here: http://www.renpy.org.

Thanks much for your time,

Mark Oppenneer

Mark,

this looks like a really interesting approach -- using a gaming/storytelling engine to create a kiosk.

do you have any screen shots that you could share?

thanks!
