MW2011 Program Review Almost Done!

Once again the Program Committee for Museums and the Web 2011 has been given a great challenge – choosing from amongst about 170 proposals for participation. As expected, the majority of the proposals received were for papers to be given in formal sessions. There are more papers than any other kind of program slot at MW – with the exception of Demonstrations. But the choices will also be difficult for Mini-Workshops, Professional Forums and other Interactions.

It's still not too late to participate in MW2011. The Deadline for Demonstration proposals isn't until December 31, 2010. Get yours in now! We'd love to see your great projects.

There are also many other opportunities for participating in MW2011 on-site. If you're a really last-minute type – and most MW-ers are – then you'll be right in your element proposing an un-conference session on-site in Philadelphia! For more details, see the outline Session Formats in the Call for Participation for more details.

True to form, the majority of MW2011 proposals came in in the last days before the deadline, though not so much the last hours this year. Our peak was a bit earlier than last year's. The timetable was compressed a bit, as we didn't start promoting until well into September, once we'd completed linking the on-line proposal form to user profiles in the MW community.

Still, while a few less than last year's 198 proposals, this year's 170 beats the 157 from MW2009 handily.

What's happening next? Each proposal is being peer-reviewed by three members of the MW2011 Program Committee. Once the last of the reviews are in, David and i will review the rankings and construct a preliminary program based on the themes that emerge from the best of the proposals. It really is a bottom-up exercise.

Offers of slots on the MW2011 program will be sent out in mid-November, using the email addresses in your profile. We hope to have the MW2011 Preliminary Program online the beginning of December.

Workshops – Full and Half Day on Wednesday April 6 – are on a separate track, and we may have that program announced sooner.

As always, we want to make sure that MW works for you. Leave us a comment, or Contact Us with your ideas and suggestions.
