Manager of Public Outreach

The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts is seeking a Manager of Public Outreach. The Manager of Public Outreach is responsible for developing and executing a multimedia communications plan that increases the Pulitzer’s visibility and accessibility locally, nationally, and internationally and for managing public and private events held at the foundation. The position reports to the Executive Director, and works closely with Curatorial and Community Engagement Departments.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Location: St. Louis

Reports To: Executive Director

The primary responsibilities of the Manager of Public Outreach are to develop and execute a multimedia communications plan to increase the Pulitzer’s visibility and accessibility locally, nationally, and internationally. Those functions include but are not limited to managing press relations, producing press materials, generating social media, branding, managing the web site, A/V equipment, and budgeting. This person is also in charge of organizing and managing the Pulitzer’s public and private events. This position reports directly to the Executive Director, and will work with the Director to assess, improve, and implement communications strategies.

Major Responsibilities

Manage press relations locally, nationally, and internationally
Assess, improve, and manage press and stakeholder lists
Compose written materials including press releases, ephemera related to exhibitions and programs such as invitations, inserts, and brochures and manage timeline
Analyze communications strategy and graphic identity to develop future direction of PFA communications plan and brand
Communicate strategy to staff and oversee assignments and deadline compliance
Serve as main contact between PFA and public relations firm
Web site and social media
Coordinate with outside firm to manage web site updates
Implement search engine optimization strategies
Generate, manage, and obtain blog postings, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, and Facebook accounts
Develop media plans
Work with the Executive Director to develop plan for web presence
Develop and implement audience relations/ membership programs
Manage A/V equipment
Develop annual budget for communications and events
Events
Work with local partners to manage logistics of public and private events at the Pulitzer
Schedule staff and oversee internal logistics

Preferred Experience/Background/Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communications preferred with strong knowledge of art
Three-years experience in PR and Marketing
Event coordination
Knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting techniques, rolling budgets, etc.
Strong attention to detail
Project management skills
Thoroughness in process implementation
Ability to work independently and interdepartmentally
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
Technologically savvy
Proficient with social media and web communication
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strict adherence to professional ethics
Evident practice of a high level of confidentiality
Working Conditions

Typical office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours are required for special events.
Travel for this position will be minimal
Ability to speak English to communicate with clients, staff members, vendors, etc.
