The Brooklyn Museum is seeking an Assistant Graphic Designer to design exhibition graphics, way-finding signage, and print and electronic materials. Our ideal candidate will have a clean yet innovative visual style that can interface with the Museum stylebook.

Requirements: A degree in graphic arts, digital photography, or a related area is required, as is 2 to 4 years of experience designing graphics for an arts organization, Museum, or related institution, with a related portfolio of produced work. The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively with exhibition designers, curators, and editors and will display fluency with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator in an Apple environment. Candidate should display dynamic use of typography, color, shape, and imagery, and superior skills at color matching and mixing across media (print vs. paint vs. on-screen). Demonstrated web design experience is necessary, including image sizing and art direction and fluent knowledge of editorial marks and corrections language.

The position also requires familiarity with numerous production methods, including ink-jet and laser printing, silk-screening, vinyl graphics, transfer type, banners, durotrans, and 4-color print production. Neatness and attention to detail, the ability to juggle multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills are also required.

Responsibilities: Design exhibition graphics for 12 to 16 art exhibitions per year, including titles, illustrated didactic panels, object labels, maps, timelines, brochures, mural prints, and environmental displays.

Work with Visitor Services on effective way-finding and exhibition directionals. Design direct-mail materials, including invitations, membership renewal forms, response cards, and envelopes.

Format images, and design and art direct elements for the Museum website. Display the ability to meet all production and installation deadlines and maintain a balanced project budget.
