Museums are at the heart of the system, institutions that serve and develop society. Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples”. Each year since 1977, the International Council of Museums organizes International Museum Day (IMD), a special moment for the global museum community. On this day, participants demonstrate closer relationship with their past and future by creating museum and cultural heritages.  International Museum Day is a fantastic opportunity for museum experts, youth and children, educators, researchers and other interest groups to meet and share cultural/heritage developments and concerns within their societies.

The theme for 2011 is “Museum & Memory” Objects tell the stories to be celebrated around on 18th May 2011. This theme recognizes that Museums have in their collections numerous visual resources that are basic to the memory of the communities which is a reflection of the social, political and economic changing patterns of those communities and the expression of the natural and cultural heritage. Many of these are not given due recognition, are fragile, endangered calling for special care and attention to be preserved and sustained. Therefore, Info-know Heritage and Educational Solutions, Teens Uganda, Fountain Publishers, Spear Group of Companies, Igongo Cultural Center, in collaboration with other stakeholders have organised a social debate to brainstorm on the affairs of the cultural and documentary heritage in Uganda on the Topic: Museum and Memory: the Socio-Economic Perspective
