CC-licenses for non-copyrighted photographs?
This is a question for MLA-institutions providing Flickr Commons with photos from their collections:
Is a "CC-goodwill-license" a feasible solution for photos with no copyright restriction?
Today we have no means to make sure that when the photograph without copyright restrictions reach third party, the information on provenance (photographer/institution) is not lost.
Through a new "CC-goodwill-license" we could at least make a plea (though ofcourse we won't have any other means to make sure people follow our request) to the public to respect the name of the photographer, and help out by linking back to, or mentioning the institution whose collection it originates from.
What are your thoughts about this?

Sounds like you're after something like the Open Data Commons community norms: http://www.opendatacommons.org/norms/odc-by-sa/
For what it's worth, I don't think you need anything that formal. A note saying "This image is in the Public Domain, but please consider linking back to us if you use it online" should suffice...
I hadn't seen those norms, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Thank's a lot Frankie!
I am though still leaving the question if a CC-license (with simple symbols/icons) could become a standard among MLA-institutions worldwide? Norms are good, but are they easy to transfer to further users down the line?
Interested to hear more comments on that one!
