Best of the Web Categories: Conservation next year?
Richard McCoy (a conservator at the IMA, twitterer @RichardMcCoy, and occasional user of this site) has suggested we have a "conservation" category in the Best of the Web awards next year. See his blog post on the "Conservy" for the full argument.
We've never given subject-based Best of the Web awards before: we've been purposefully neutral about the choices of 'exhibition', 'research', etc., so that any subject from conservation to calligraphy could be explored in any category. Is that still the right approach?
Thanks for your thoughts! And don't forget to offer your comments on this years Best of the Web nominees.

Hi M&W blog --
You're very kind for putting this up and asking folks to consider it (and importing the twitter chat too). Among other things, this post reminded me that I registered for M & W some time ago. And why did I register? To vote for a "Best of the Web" award that the IMA New Media Dept. was up for.
Of course I recognize the irony in their vicotry.
hey Richard,
the BoW awards are for the community, and we're always open for suggestions for ways to make them work better. we've had several online discussions of them, and i'm sure there will be more!
see you soon. will you arrange for spring to have come to Indianapolis?

MW2009 tweeted in response to Richard McCoy's announcement of the award:
is @richardmccoy right?
should there be a 'conservation' category in the best of the web awards next year?
and these are the response so far:

@mw2009 Conservation sounds interesting -
but isn't it time, too, to reward sites that are particularly accessible?
While I'm not sure there should be a sep. award for cons., cons.
options could be different whether the artifact is art or histo..
true, yet IMHO art conserv has tradition of secrecy.Web
transparency/documentation is educational & significant

@mw2009 No. Unless you have incubator award that
every year to encourage growth
@nrd @mw2009 Interesting idea about an "incubator" award. That could have an immediate affect.
What do you think?
