Glimpsed from the Bus on the Way to the Exploratorium

Two ladies,

Elderly twins,
elbows conjoined by age, habit, and mutual need,
Creep determinedly
Up a Nob Hill side street.
Lock-step in matching
     pumps (sensible, not flats),
     red dresses (knee-length),
fur coats (collars up against evening chill),
     and
     red cowboy hats.
I see only their backs.
Were they the last drying, yet vividly blooming branch
of an Old California family
    ranching maybe?
Or simply San Francisco high society (an original social network),
     deeply connected to their city
Unaided by the Web, iPod, or e-anything.

Steve, how lucky you were to catch a glimpse of the Twins!  Read more about them at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_Twins.  Thanks for your poem!
