Abstract

Abstract (Paper in French) The AICIM Network (Access Digitalized to the Museums Institutions’s collections) is a service from the non-for- profit-association: Musées et Société en Wallonie. The purpose of it is to create a common data base of the inheritance representative of the museums of the French Community. The product was to be operational within the two years during which the conventional objectives were to be achieved (computer equipment delivery, minimal record on line). The delivery of material intended for the digital documentation of the collections has resulted, among our sixty-six museums members, in some reflection on the digitalization of their collections. To cause, support and centralize this reflection, two advisers were present at each stage of the project development. The strategy deployed by the Network is an exemplary application because each institution was an active fellow worker of the project. An unquestionable advantage of this type of strategy was creation of a true human network where whoever feels concerned and listened. To build a true network of collaboration, working groups were formed according to various types of collections, to gather and share the experiments of each one. Results are: the data base on line, the common minimal record and its documentation (descriptive grid, methodological handbook). Our institutions thus became aware of the importance of inventory work. Network AICIM offers an attractive tool allowing a better knowledge of the scientific work and a broader diffusion of our heritage near the public (of general public to the researchers while passing through the museum’s staff).
