Abstract

Abstract (paper in French) Computer memory and software may help to determine new theoretical and critical approaches in today’s art. However, collecting and indexing documents in a database doesn’t automatically give rise to an analysis or a history of the works. The design of the archive, the nature of the documents included in it, and the best way for the user to explore the contents, have to be taken into account. The first titles of “anarchive” (Muntadas Media Architecture and Digital Snow) - a series of DVD- Rs dedicated to contemporary art, particularly installations and performance pieces – will serve as examples of this type of work. Each of these DVD-Rs is simultaneously a creation directed by the artist and a historical and critical commentary on the artist’s work. %U http://www.archimuse.com/publishing/ichim03/051C.pdf
