Any advice on image metadata?
April 30, 2013 - 6:27amActually, it is already illegal to remove or strip rights management
information and also illegal to remove any technical protection measures
that might be embedded in a work.
The new legislation will require reasonable searches to try and find the
rights holders, and money will be paid by users in order to use the orphan
works under a licensing scheme which will have detailed requirements
attached to it. [...]

Re: Recording audio
April 24, 2013 - 7:54amHi Linda
For Android devices I would recommend TapeMachine Recorder. I have used
this on a variety of phones for as a cheap substitute for an industry
standard digital microphone (such as as the DRM85) and have found it to
work brilliantly. There is a nice live waveform when recording (to monitor
clipping and background noise) and has some basic editing tools. The audio
quality is excellent. However, I would only recommend this method if the
recording is going to be performed indoors. For outdoors audio, I would
recommend a digital mic, either bought or hired. [...]

Re: app for audio and video content
April 24, 2013 - 7:14amHey there I work at the British Museum with the young people and schools department. Have you thought of using a program called wildform. This app and program is excellent for collecting date such as audio, video and pictures. Check it out there is an annual fee but its not much its about £4.00 a year here in Britain but I'm sure it will only cost a couple of euros in Austria. Hope this helps. [...]

Re: Diary studies
April 23, 2013 - 11:56amHi David, Giasemi Vavoula's phd thesis may be useful for you. Amongst several methods, she used "diary study" technique as a qualitative method of research: http://www2.le.ac.uk/Members/gv18/downloads/publicationpreprints/Thesis-GVavoula.pdf She wrote the thesis 12 years ago, so, uint eh main time, she has wrote other interesting papers and books. Diary studies
April 23, 2013 - 11:28amDear all,
Has anyone on the list been involved in running a diary study as a research method to engage with users (as part of a design process)? As part of a project I'm working on we're planning to use this as method into researching user behaviours and motivations around mobile usage (specifically around arts/cultural heritage but also considered in a wider context). An off topic question (sorry!)
April 22, 2013 - 12:23pmHi all
Forgive the non-tech question but a client of ours is looking to
commission some museum furniture for on-gallery and I wondered if
anyone could recommend where I should point him to? I have absolutely
no idea where to start...
Please reply off list to avoid non-topical noise!
Thanks lots
Mike

Re: CIDOC CRM Semantic Search - ResearchSpace system
April 22, 2013 - 12:05pmHi Mike,
I posted a demo with audio. See www.researchspace.org.
I hope it's OK and would be interested in your comments. It is HD so you can make it full screen. It also gives a glimpse of the annotation tools and databasket also. I will do a separate video for these.
Cheers,
Dominic
