Re: Invitation to register - Museum Informatics Day, 4th June, National Railway Museum, York

May 2, 2013 - 4:36pm

Sounds interesting, and I'd love to be there in person - haven't been to
York in years. I can get a train from London for £35 return, but seeing as
I'm currently funding all such activities out of my own pocket it'll have
to be a very early start or some bargain basement accommodation. Anyone
know of anywhere cheap to stay? [...]

And maybe session chairs could take questions via twitter, and someone could live-blog or storify the talks? Or speakers could post their slides/notes beforehand?

Cheers, Mia

I think that a simple Twitter-based approach is as much as we can aspire
to. We can invent a hashtag for the event, project the feed for that
hashtag onto the wall, and delegate someone to watch the feed and raise
issues which come in from outside. And of course tweet like mad from
the meeting, so that everyone "outside" knows what we are discussing. [...]

Museums and Wikipedia

May 2, 2013 - 12:34pm

Hi all,

I'm putting together an edition of Museum Practice on Wikipedia, and am really keen to hear from any museums, galleries, historic houses etc as well as individuals who might be interested in speaking to me about their work in this area. Any examples of UK museums hosting a Wiki edit-a-thon would also be welcome. [...]

If only we had a list of 1000 or so creative technologists who could suggest brilliant ways of bringing everyone together virtually...? Yes, my thoughts entirely

I'm sure the list members could come up with some great (free) ways to do it.

Hi Linda,

Many thanks for this. I don't honestly know - we can do the usual live-blogging/tweeting, and I'm very happy for people to participate remotely. If only we had a list of 1000 or so creative technologists who could suggest brilliant ways of bringing everyone together virtually...?

May 2, 2013 - 11:33am

Nick

This looks interesting but travel budgets being what they are (ie non-existent) I'm sure there will be a lot of people like me that probably won't be able to come.

How will the discussions be disseminated to the wider community (will it be videoed or blogged?) and is ther anyway in this electronic era that those of us back in the office could participate - questions via Twitter or email?? [...]

FW: iPad tours

May 1, 2013 - 4:45pm

Hi everyone,

I was looking at a Mobile Survey released by the MA last year (http://www.museumsassociation.org/asset_arena/8/91/13/731198/v0_master.pdf) and on page 13 it mentions that 2% of the 386 museums that were surveyed provide iPad tours.

I was just wondereding whether anyone on this list works at one of these museums or if anyone has experience with iPad tours in museums. [...]
