Demonstrations: Description

The Real, the Virtual & the Local

Gunnar Liestøl, University of Oslo, Norway

Museums necessarily tends to move cultural artefacts into centralized institutions for conservation, research and display – away from their original places and contexts. With contemporary digital technology it is possible to compensate for this displacement. The presentation reports on a project where digital genre design is conducted as a method to invent innovative expressive solutions based on the ongoing convergence of mobility, broadband, high resolution graphics and positioning technology. Examples which will be presented includes the Oseberg Viking Ship grave mound in Norway and the Parthenon temple on the Acropolis in Athen, among others.
