Building an Online Community and Resource for Informal Science Education Professionals

Marti Louw, University of Pittsburgh Center for Learning in Out-of-School Environments, USA is developing online community resource dedicated to the dissemination and development of informal science learning, evaluation and projects. This NSF-funded site aims to advance the field of informal science education by supporting knowledge-sharing and fostering a vibrant professional community of practitioners and researchers who share practices, interact around problems, reflect on solutions and project insights while building a common store of knowledge and shared language.

The site was designed with LotterShelly based upon interviews, surveys, focus groups, advisory board meetings and continues to evolve though interactions with members of the community that have increased our understanding and awareness of the needs and opportunities of perspective of key users which include:
