The Indiana State Museum is a world-class structural marvel, integrating art and architecture with a palate of building materials that are native to the state, including limestone, stainless steel, and glass. Beginning with a behind-the-scenes look at selected collections storage areas, the tour will highlight a sheet music collection digitization project called IN Harmony, done in collaboration with Indiana University. We will demo the project’s three major technology deliverables: an automated quality control process, a cataloging tool, and an on-line web accessible search and discovery tool. Various software protocols and data systems are being used, including Oracle, Fedora Digital Repository, and Indiana University METS Navigator.

Next, we'll give an overview of our new Web site, launched November 2008. The old site was complicated and cumbersome, both for end-users and administrators. The new site aims for simplicity, allowing visitors to find collection items, plan field trips, and even schedule events on-line. Administrators can add pages, photos, videos, and events with ease. The tour will close with a discussion of blogging and the museum will present a surprise speaker for Q&A who is a leading national authority on cutting edge digital and social media and the impact on museums and museum marketing.
