Your Background

Your Biography

Raul Guerra is a second year Ph.D. student in the Computer Science Department at the University of Maryland. His research interests lie in finding ways to make sense, to find insights, and to help humans analyze the enormous amounts of data that are being generated by computers by coming up with new algorithms or building new systems that apply known ones. In the past, he did research in bioinformatics at Colgate University. Now he is exploring computational linguistics and coming up with innovative ways of pre-processing tags (dealing with the lack of context that text has) and extracting user perception of images by analyzing patterns in the way tags annotate images. He graduated with a Computer Science degree in 2009 from Colgate University. He is originally from Guatemala City, Guatemala.
