Some people may use their local community paper to find a listing of the next weekend’s events but many others will use their smartphones, tablets, or laptops—or seek instant access to the information once they’ve arrived at a destination. Given museums’ limited staffing, re-entering data is not an efficient use of resources. But what are the best practices for creating content for multiple platforms?</p> <p>At the Balboa Park Online Collaborative, we have created a flow through which calendar events are created for the Balboa Park website and are fed out to a branded Balboa Park iPhone app, Spotlight Mobile’s Meridian platform (for iOS and Android devices), and on-site interactive kiosks. We have also made duplicate versions of this feed available to media outlets for their use in creating community calendars.</p> <p>This paper and session will review the steps through which participants could develop a similar flow for their organizations’ content and discuss aspects of the content that need to be optimized for mobile apps and kiosks.&nbsp;</p> <p>This session is appropriate for staff who manage web and mobile content for their organizations.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-program-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Type:&nbsp;</div> Mini-Workshop - teaches something or explores approaches </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-backreference-event"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/mw2012/sessions/mini_workshop_on_producing_calendar_content_">Mini-Workshop on Producing Calendar Content for Multiple Platforms</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-link field-field-progam-url"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Site:&nbsp;</div> <a href="http://www.balboapark.org" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" title="Read more about [title]">http://www.balboapark.org</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-program-authors"> <div class="field-label">Authors:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/user/mdougherty" class="username" title="View Maren&#039;s profile.">Maren Dougherty</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="og_rss_groups"></div> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2012/programs/save_the_date_producing_calendar_content_for#comments MW2012 data Drupal calendar museum calendar Web content web strategy “Multiplatform” http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/15233 Fri, 30 Sep 2011 20:52:13 +0000 MDougherty 15233 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com The Trade in Digital: Partnerships and Collaboration in the Content Economy http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2011/papers/the_trade_in_digital_partnerships_and_collabor <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-paper-conference"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> MW2011 </div> </div> </div> <div id="intro-paragraph"> <h2 class="Author">Timothy Hart, Director Information, Multimedia and Technology, Museum Victoria, Australia</h2> <h3 class="URL">Abstract</h3> <p class="AbstractText">In our massively connected world content is indeed king and museums if they take a close look, will find themselves, well placed to deliver highly sought after content to an ever expanding audience. Collaboration is emerging as the critical enabler in taking full advantage of the opportunities now available for the delivery of museum online content. Collaboration needs to be both internal and external. The number and quality of national data services now operating is making museum content available for researchers and the public in numbers and types unimaginable only a few years ago. The ground work is laid in most large museums to allow them to participate in providing access to the full range and wonder possible in museum generated content.</p> <p class="keywords">Keywords: collaboration, collections, content, data, partnerships, opportunity, economy, research, Australia</p> </div><div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-paper-program-ref"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Program Item Reference:&nbsp;</div> <a href="/mw2011/programs/the_trade_in_digital_partnerships_in_the_con">The Trade in Digital: partnerships in the content economy</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="og_rss_groups"></div><p><a href="http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2011/papers/the_trade_in_digital_partnerships_and_collabor" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2011/papers/the_trade_in_digital_partnerships_and_collabor#comments MW2011 Australia collaboration collections content data economy opportunity partnerships research http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/14931 Wed, 30 Mar 2011 20:35:08 +0000 Timothy Hart 14931 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com Functional Requirements for Membership, Development & Participation Systems http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/functional_requirements_membership_development_partic <span class="biblio-authors"><a href="/biblio/author/1661">Bearman, D.</a></span> (1990).&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class="biblio-title"><a href="/biblio/functional_requirements_membership_development_partic">Functional Requirements for Membership, Development &amp; Participation Systems</a>. </span> <u>Archives and Museum Informatics Technical Reports. </u> 71 pp.<span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Adc&amp;rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Fconference.archimuse.com&amp;rft.title=Functional+Requirements+for+Membership%2C+Development+%26+Participation+Systems&amp;rft.issn=1042-1459&amp;rft.date=1990&amp;rft.spage=71+pp&amp;rft.aulast=Bearman&amp;rft.aufirst=David&amp;rft.pub=Archives+%26+Museum+Informatics&amp;rft.place=Pittsburgh&amp;rft_id=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.archimuse.com%2Fpublishing%2Fbearman_memb_dev_part.html"></span><div class="og_rss_groups"></div> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/functional_requirements_membership_development_partic#comments archives computerization computers data development development systems digitization EVA functional requirements functions informatics membership membership systems museums newsletter participation participation systems technical report technical report http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/10392 Fri, 14 Nov 2008 18:48:29 +0000 ngamble 10392 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com
