ARTeMuse has been tested in the Davis Museum and Cultural Center, an academic fine-arts museum on the Wellesley College campus. Our findings indicate that beginning users who tested the application were more engaged with works of arts while using ARTeMuse than they were when viewing the collection without the application. As a result, they spent significantly more time with each work. Users were eager to use ARTeMuse and expressed their satisfaction about learning new ways to think about art. Through the development and evaluation of ARTeMuse, we seek to investigate how mobile human-computer interaction paired with social networking can help museums to redefine the museum experience for beginning viewers.</p> <p class="AbstractText">Keywords: ARTeMuse, mobile human-computer interaction, social networking</p> </div> <p><div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-paper-program-ref"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Program Item Reference:&nbsp;</div> <a href="/mw2011/programs/art_app_reciation_fostering_engagement_and_r">Art App-reciation: Fostering engagement and reflection in museums through a social mobile application </a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="og_rss_groups"></div><p><a href="http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2011/papers/art_app_reciation_fostering_engagement_and_ref" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2011/papers/art_app_reciation_fostering_engagement_and_ref#comments MW2011 ARTeMuse mobile human-computer interaction social networking http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/14438 Thu, 17 Mar 2011 21:32:58 +0000 oshaer 14438 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com Dulwich OnView: A museum blog run by the community for the community http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/dulwich_onview_a_museum_blog_run_by_the_community_for <span class="biblio-authors"><a href="/biblio/author/24">Bowen, J.</a>, <a href="/biblio/author/2009">Beazley I.</a>, <a href="/biblio/author/2010">Liu A. This new section of the site will launch in early 2011. A beta version of the web pages is available for viewing at whitney.org/ForKids.</p> <p>Centered upon the Museum’s collection and exhibitions, the goals of this project are to offer kids in-depth content about art and artists and build a safe, carefully moderated online community for interaction between peer groups. “For Kids” offers a unique window into Whitney artists’ work and ideas, and draws direct parallels between the artists’ and the kids’ creative processes. It also provides opportunities for tagging, commenting, voting, polling, contributed responses, and user-generated content. Children can tag works of art in the Whitney’s collection, create their own collections, and make a profile page where they can upload and share their own artwork and see the polls and quizzes that they have participated in. On the landing page, works by featured Whitney artists are literally paired with artwork uploaded by Whitney kids and works from the Whitney’s Collection sit side by side with kids’ collections. A special feature is a type of “graffiti wall”—a pattern maker based on a set of algorithms that kids can use to change the page design throughout the “For Kids” area.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-program-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Type:&nbsp;</div> Demonstration - show your project </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-backreference-event"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/mw2011/demonstrations/demonstrations_i">Demonstrations I</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-link field-field-progam-url"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Site:&nbsp;</div> <a href="http://whitney.org/ForKids" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" title="Read more about [title]">http://whitney.org/ForKids</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-program-authors"> <div class="field-label">Authors:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/user/dinahelal" class="username" title="View dina&#039;s profile.">dina helal</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="og_rss_groups"></div> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2011/programs/for_kids#comments MW2011 art artists kids social networking user-generated content Web 2.0 http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/13123 Fri, 10 Dec 2010 20:01:39 +0000 dina.helal 13123 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com Mixing Social Glue with Brick and Mortar: Experiments Using the Mobile Web to Connect People, Objects, and Museums http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/mixing_social_glue_brick_and_mortar_experiments_using <span class="biblio-authors"><a href="/biblio/author/1973">Doyle, J.</a>, &amp; <a href="/biblio/author/1974">Doyle M.</a></span> (2010).&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class="biblio-title"><a href="/biblio/mixing_social_glue_brick_and_mortar_experiments_using">Mixing Social Glue with Brick and Mortar: Experiments Using the Mobile Web to Connect People, Objects, and Museums</a>. </span> (<span class="biblio_authors"><span id="2"><a href="/biblio/author/1920">Trant, Jennifer</a></span>, <span id="2"><a href="/biblio/author/1929">David Bearman</a></span></span>, Ed.).<u>Museums and the Web. </u> <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Adc&amp;rft.title=Mixing+Social+Glue+with+Brick+and+Mortar%3A+Experiments+Using+the+Mobile+Web+to+Connect+People%2C+Objects%2C+and+Museums&amp;rft.date=2010&amp;rft.aulast=Doyle&amp;rft.aufirst=Jeff&amp;rft.pub=Archives+%26amp%3B+Museum+Informatics&amp;rft.place=Denver%2C+Colorado%2C+USA"></span><div class="og_rss_groups"></div> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/mixing_social_glue_brick_and_mortar_experiments_using#comments MW MW2010 audio guide brick and mortar content management digital outreach mobile Web online / onsite social networking http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/12118 Wed, 14 Apr 2010 22:10:50 +0000 biblio 12118 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com From Boring and Non-Offensive to Dancing Unicorns and Glitter Text: How a Create a Teen Web Site with Teenagers http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/boring_and_nonoffensive_dancing_unicorns_and_glitter_ <span class="biblio-authors"><a href="/biblio/author/1701">Heideman, J.</a>, &amp; <a href="/biblio/author/1746">Siasoco W.</a></span> (2008).&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class="biblio-title"><a href="/biblio/boring_and_nonoffensive_dancing_unicorns_and_glitter_">From Boring and Non-Offensive to Dancing Unicorns and Glitter Text: How a Create a Teen Web Site with Teenagers</a>. </span> (<span class="biblio_authors"><span id="14"><a href="/biblio/author/1920">Trant, Jennifer</a></span>, <span id="14"><a href="/biblio/author/1929">David Bearman</a></span></span>, Ed.).<u>Museums and the Web 2008.
