Not only will we think and talk about how to create a good user experience out of this, we will start building and implementing it on the spot.</p> <p>Anyone with an interest in open data can join as long as you are willing to take part in the actual creation of an online experience. We need people who can design, code, write requirements, and people who can conceptualize ideas and curate these.&nbsp;And the good thing is: It won't stop after half a day. We will continue building an online experience during a three day Hackathon during MW2012. Anyone can join in, all skills are needed.&nbsp;</p> <p>Our goal is to present a joint effort and a concrete result during closing sessions on Saturday.&nbsp;To create a genuine co-operation between institutions and museum professionals, between coders and curators and have some real fun with really great content.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-program-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Type:&nbsp;</div> Workshop - full or half day </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-backreference-event"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/mw2012/workshops/weaving_and_hacking_collections">Weaving and hacking collections</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-program-authors"> <div class="field-label">Authors:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/user/paul_stork" class="username" title="View Paul&#039;s profile.">Paul Stork</a> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <a href="/user/kars" class="username" title="View Kars&#039;s profile.">Kars Veling</a> </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/user/matthijsvan_der_meulen" class="username" title="View Matthijs&#039;s profile.">Matthijs van der Meulen</a> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <a href="/user/heinwils" class="username" title="View Hein&#039;s profile.">Hein Wils</a> </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/user/ebelienpondaag" class="username" title="View Ebelien&#039;s profile.">Ebelien Pondaag</a> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <a href="/user/lukasvan3l" class="username" title="View Lukas&#039;s profile.">Lukas van Driel</a> </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/user/annaoffermans" class="username" title="View Anna&#039;s profile.">Anna Offermans</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="og_rss_groups"></div> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2012/programs/weaving_and_hacking_collections#comments MW2012 API hacking Linked Open Data mashup open data http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/15193 Fri, 30 Sep 2011 12:32:33 +0000 Paul Stork 15193 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com Accelerating in Flight: Access to a Collection via Flickr http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2011/programs/accelerating_in_flight_access_to_a_collectio <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-program-conference"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> MW2011 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-program-keywords"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Keywords:&nbsp;</div> flickr </div> <div class="field-item even"> <div class="field-label-inline"> Keywords:&nbsp;</div> social media </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline"> Keywords:&nbsp;</div> BPOC </div> <div class="field-item even"> <div class="field-label-inline"> Keywords:&nbsp;</div> collaboration </div> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline"> Keywords:&nbsp;</div> mashup </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-program-abstract"> <div class="field-label">Abstract:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>In an effort to get more of the Balboa Park Museum’s collections online and accessible to the public, the Balboa Park Online Collaborative (BPOC) has been leading an effort to efficiently and quickly digitize the wealth of media in the Park museums collection. This demonstration will highlight the success of the San Diego Air and Space Museum (SDASM) to increase visitor visibility and interest in their museum by getting photographs from their archives up on Flickr. After working for ten years to digitize their photography collection one by one, the SDASM archival team of Alan Renga and Katrina Pescador were able to step up those efforts with a new highly specialized rapid capture station, purchased by BPOC as part of its mission to implement new technology to provide increased visitor access and participation. More than 25,000 images have been digitized from the photography collection of the SDASM’s archive using the rapid capture station since January of 2010. In May, the first batch of photographs were uploaded to Flickr and since then more than 100,000 images from the collection have been posted. &nbsp;As a result, this collection has drawn more than three quarters of a million visits, four times the normal traffic to the museum’s site.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-program-type"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Type:&nbsp;</div> Demonstration - show your project </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-backreference-event"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/mw2011/demonstrations/demonstrations_iv">Demonstrations IV</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-link field-field-progam-url"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Site:&nbsp;</div> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sdasmarchives" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" title="Read more about [title]">http://www.flickr.com/photos/sdasmarchives</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-program-authors"> <div class="field-label">Authors:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/user/alanrenga" class="username" title="View Alan&#039;s profile.">Alan Renga</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="og_rss_groups"></div> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/mw2011/programs/accelerating_in_flight_access_to_a_collectio#comments MW2011 BPOC collaboration flickr mashup social media http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/12483 Fri, 01 Oct 2010 02:16:44 +0000 Rich Cherry 12483 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com Cosmic Collections: creating a big bang http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/cosmic_collections_creating_big_bang <span class="biblio-authors"><a href="/biblio/author/1960">Ridge, M.</a></span> (2010).&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class="biblio-title"><a href="/biblio/cosmic_collections_creating_big_bang">Cosmic Collections: creating a big bang</a>. </span> (<span class="biblio_authors"><span id="2"><a href="/biblio/author/1920">Trant, Jennifer</a></span>, <span id="2"><a href="/biblio/author/1929">David Bearman</a></span></span>, Ed.).<u>Museums and the Web. </u> <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Adc&amp;rft.title=Cosmic+Collections%3A+creating+a+big+bang&amp;rft.date=2010&amp;rft.aulast=Ridge&amp;rft.aufirst=Mia&amp;rft.pub=Archives+%26amp%3B+Museum+Informatics&amp;rft.place=Denver%2C+Colorado%2C+USA"></span><div class="og_rss_groups"></div> http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/cosmic_collections_creating_big_bang#comments MW MW2010 API collaboration collections exhibition experiment mashup social media http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/crss/node/12108 Wed, 14 Apr 2010 22:10:45 +0000 biblio 12108 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com Uniting the shanty towns - data combining across multiple institutions http://www.museumsandtheweb.com/biblio/uniting_shanty_towns_data_combining_across_multiple_i <span class="biblio-authors"><a href="/biblio/author/136">Chan, S.</a></span> (2008).&nbsp;&nbsp;<span class="biblio-title"><a href="/biblio/uniting_shanty_towns_data_combining_across_multiple_i">Uniting the shanty towns - data combining across multiple institutions</a>. </span> (<span class="biblio_authors"><span id="14"><a href="/biblio/author/1920">Trant, Jennifer</a></span>, <span id="14"><a href="/biblio/author/1661">David Bearman</a></span></span>, Ed.).<u>Museums and the Web 2008.
