Theis Vallø Madsen, Art Historian, is sorting out, categorizing, mapping, and making sense of a large and messy mail art archive, without making it fit too well, or to make sense where there should have been nonsense. The archive is the basis of his PhD project concerned with archives, network, and mail art from the 1960’s and onward. The main questions are: How does one oscillate between overview and complexity, the order and the chaos? How does one navigate in entangled collections of art and cultural heritage? Following this question, the archive is now the basis of a co-creation between museums, digital designers and the university set out to develop new ways of mapping and visualizing messy museum collections.
