Why
It's Elemental was a video contest for high school students in the US. More than 2,000 students from 37 states across the U.S. produced the 689 videos that populate our online, interactive periodic table. From documentaries to music videos to news reports, these videos use different film genres to examine the elements. Winning videos were selected by a distinguished panel of judges, with prizes including a trip to Philadelphia and grants for science programs at winners’ schools. Even more students, family members, friends, and neighbors participated in the contest by voting for their favorite videos for the People’s Pick Award. The contest provided a multidisciplinary approach to the study of chemistry and immersed students in the historical and sociological significance of the elements and the impact they have on people’s daily lives.
