Explore the City of Chicago during your Museums and Web 2015 visit through a few great tours that show off the city in different ways.
Join the Chicago Architecture Foundation Tour for an overview of the exhibit “Chicago: City of Big Data“ followed by a walking tour investigating how data is transforming how we plan, design and build cities. Enjoy lunch while cruising on the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise Aboard Chicago’s First Lady Cruises, a “must-see” for visitors and Chicagoans alike. After your cruise a guided walk will lead you to discover Ellen Lanyon’s Riverwalk Gateway, a tiled mural charting the rise of Chicago and the significance of the river. The walk will conclude at Navy Pier where you will have a few hours free to shop, eat, drink or enjoy the attractions.
The “Urbs en Horto” tour takes its name from one of Chicago’s historic mottos meaning “City in a Garden.” Recently the motto has taken on new meaning and significance with the rise of conscious eating and urban farming. The Plant Chicago and Sweetwater Foundation are two innovative Chicago organizations that engage and combine technology, cross-disciplinary learning, architecture, and urban planning and design. Tour attendees will visit the two organizations across multiple sites in Chicago to view how technology is enabling new learning and business models, how technology is providing a very practical and immediate application of science including STEM-related concepts, and how these organizations are hoping to change the fabric of the city through their projects and organizations.
