Maybe we have a semantic gap here: an IT Plan alone doesn't make a Digital Strategy that needs to go much further.

To me, one of the problems is that what we, content museum people, understand by a Digital strategy is miles away from what IT people understands. For the latter it usually means hardware infrastructure, storage, security systems, corporative software, etc.When, in fact, all these IT essential aspects are the basis to allow a strategy to be buolt on. For us, content people, a Digital Strategy means addressing both content & users experience, creating online content that serves and engages our users, developing educational online resources, digitising the collection, offering good quality content via multiple platforms, having a Social Media plan, etc.
Without IT there can obviously not be a Digital strategy, but IT is the tool, not the strategy!
That's why I didn't mentioned IT infrastructure on my Digital Strategy Map http://www.slideshare.net/innova3/digital-strategy-map-for-museums , because I gave IT for granted;)

In an ideal horizon, working together content experts + IT experts while designing the Digital Strategy will only result in more powerful and better plans.

And I'd like to add one more thing: It came as a nice surprise since my first MW to see how IT people in MW are really concerned in users' experience and in putting technology at the service of the content and its accessibility.

Conxa
@innova2
Mon, 09 Apr 2012 21:04:19 +0000 Conxa comment 4939 at http://www.museumsandtheweb.com
