Abstract:

Digital creative technologies have penetrated every aspect of the museum experience and have, greatly enhanced the visual effect of museum exhibitions while usefully promoting the interactive relationship between audiences and the exhibition environment. This paper aims to identify issues which affect the uptake of digital technologies in decorative arts collections in two museum sites: Nanjing Museum, Jiangsu Province and the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, Sydney. It explores the ways in which digital and physical spaces are established for both discovery and interaction. The paper is informed by the belief that the nature of digital museum exhibition is to help visitors get sense of identity and pride of national culture through experience and reflection rather than to remember advanced digital technology.
