Colin Wiginton is Manager, Community Programs, at the Art Gallery of Ontario. He holds a B.A. in Art History from Queen's University (Kingston) and a Masters of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto, where he focused on museum education as well as the democratization of learning rooted in community-based practices. Currently he is responsible for implementing two new initiatives on behalf of the Transformation AGO Project at the Art Gallery of Ontario. ArtsAccess is an inter-regional program designed to bring together artists, community members and cultural organizations through arts education. Collection X (www.collectionx.museum) is a dynamic, on-line database that juxtaposes selections from public collections with content contributed by the public. His work on ArtsAccess and Collection X has offered a unique opportunity to weave together a range of interests, experiences and ideas in ways that encourage people of all ages and abilities to get involved in museums and galleries as places capable of fostering participation, creativity, collaboration and insight.
