Web Developer

JOB DESCRIPTION: Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time web developer. As a member of the newly-created digital engagement team, the successful candidate would work with all four components of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh (Carnegie Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, The Andy Warhol Museum and the Carnegie Science Center) and central IT resources to design and develop websites, web applications and other visitor-facing digital projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough understanding of digital interactive project development. Familiarity with standard concepts of design and usability, with a strong user-centered design orientation.

•Experience with at least one dynamic programming language (Ruby, Python, PHP, etc.)
•HTML5/CSS/Javascript/JQuery or other standard web languages as foundations for interactivity
•Experience with RESTful API interaction and JSON
•Experience with a RDBMS (preferably MS SQL Server 2008 or later)
•Experience with web and social media integration.
•Working knowledge of version control, preferably Git
•Knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of experience in interaction design, web design, and visual communication. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet deadlines and user demands; ability to work cooperatively in a team environment with a wide variety of people. Two years’ professional experience developing websites and other interaction-based multimedia in a team environment, in particular collaborating with content experts, editors, and developers, preferably in a museum, research, or educational setting. Strong expertise skills in web development; experience with web backend and frontend development and familiarity with responsive web design, web standards, and best practices for web development.

Physical Requirements: Usual office setting; extended time sitting at/working on a computer; ability to work under pressure and pay attention to detail. In order to meet deadlines, evening and weekend hours may be required.
