The Office of the National Institute for Holocaust Education (NIHE), U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is seeking to hire a Senior Digital Curator. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing content development for digital outreach for NIHE and the Center for the Prevention of Genocide (CPG). The incumbent will work closely with the staff of NIHE and CPG to advance the offices’ digital objectives.
The NIHE’s major responsibilities are to oversee the planning, management, design, production and maintenance of the Museum’s exhibition, educational technology, and national educational outreach programs, both on-site and off-site; to share Holocaust history with the public, and to encourage dialogue about its meaning for today’s world. The CPG conducts research, education and outreach on genocide prevention and places at risk, with a focus on the public and policymakers.
• Directs the production of unique content related to why the Holocaust happened and the history, causes and warning signs of genocide; core concepts like international justice and incitement; and other issues of broad relevance to the public.
• Provides oversight and leadership for organizing and managing the production of authoritative Web and other digital content on the Holocaust and genocide for a global audience.
• Develops innovative approaches and tactics that engage online audiences and demonstrates the importance of genocide prevention and the relevance of the Holocaust and its lessons.
• Develops short and long term plans to engage and expand audiences, especially opinion leaders and young people, through social and other media, to keep them interested in the issue of genocide prevention and the history and lessons of the Holocaust.
• Integrates digital storytelling approaches with Museum-based experiences to create sustained opportunities for and relationships with visitors.
• Interfaces with Marketing and Development staff to incorporate fundraising and other institutional goals in digital outreach.
• Oversees cross-office teams of historians, writers, genocide experts, educators and technology specialists to produce multi-lingual Web pages and a variety of multi-media products.
• Provides leadership over the day-to-day work operations and programs of professional staff.
• Provides advisory services and recommendations to the Council, Museum Director, Associate Directors and other top management on digital approaches and technology policy issues, programs and services.
• Skill in storytelling and directing the production of unique and engaging content
• Knowledge of digital and new media: best practices, industry standards and how to reach and engage new audiences.
• Ability to manage, supervise and/or lead a staff of employees.
• Skill in providing oversight and leadership in organizing and managing the production of authoritative Web and other digital content for a global audience.
• Ability to develop innovative approaches and tactics that engage online audiences .
• Skill in public speaking and conveying the organization’s mission in public forums and to the news media.
• Knowledge of the history of the Holocaust and instances of contemporary genocide.
This is a non-federal full-time term appointment not to exceed two (2) years with benefits.Salary Range – DS-15 – $124,995 – $157,100 (salary commensurate with experience).
