Font End Interactive Developer

The Walker Art Center seeks a full-time creative, experimental, and cross-platform Front End Interactive Developer to help push boundaries and make amazing things. This role is a part of the team behind our award-winning website,, as we set out to create the next generation of mobile, responsive, and touch capable platforms for content and education. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a passion for art, design, and technology.

The Front End Interactive Developer will assist in the design, development, testing, and documenting of web, mobile, and touchscreen-based applications. Responsibilities include coding browser-based JavaScript solutions, from UX to design to interaction to application, for internal usage, exhibitions, and the public website.

The successful candidate will be open to collaboration with a playful approach but professional demeanor and the ability to wear multiple hats to support a diverse portfolio of work. The candidate should also be comfortable working with practical software development tools and workflows, such as TDD and git, Basecamp, wiki, the command-line, and task automation through scripting. New Media development is done on Macs, however the Walker as a whole is a mixed-platform environment.



Experience with modern web technologies (i.e. HTML/CSS/Javascript) is a must. The preferred candidate will have working knowledge of templating languages and CSS preprocessors; experience with Backbone, Angular, React, or coding against APIs is a plus. Strong visual acuity is a plus; candidates should be able to translate design mockups into pixel-perfect implementations. Bonus points go to the candidates who have experience with any of the following: custom CMSs, digital publishing, location-based applications, Django, Rails, AWS/S3/Cloudfront, or video streaming.



Salary in the upper 60’s/low 70s DOE, excellent benefit package, Walker membership and museum discount, and the opportunity to work alongside talented, dynamic people.
