Digital Content Coordinator, The Field Museum

The Digital Content Coordinator plans, coordinates, and maintains content for The Field Museum’s main website, fieldmuseum.org, and assists with related web projects, including jumping into an iterative redesign of the site that is just getting started and will continue into 2018 and 2019. This is a full time position.

Reporting to the Web & Digital Project Manager, this position supports new and ongoing projects of the Digital Communications team, primarily related to the website and other digital content. The Digital Content Coordinator will work closely with colleagues on the Digital, Marketing, and Public Relations teams, as well as coordinate with staff in a range of departments across the Museum. In the service of providing the best possible experience for all website visitors and internal stakeholders, he or she will be an advocate for consistent content and formatting, accessibility, and usability on fieldmuseum.org.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Web & Digital Project Manager on planning, tracking, coordination, and reporting for web and digital initiatives, including an iterative redesign of fieldmuseum.org throughout 2017-2019.
  • Monitor, maintain, create, and improve content on fieldmuseum.org, with an eye for how content is formatted and delivered, using a content management system (Drupal). Write informational copy for fieldmuseum.org. Maintain top-of-mind awareness of accuracy, branding, and consistency of institutional voice as well as web content best practices.
  • Support urgent and timely updates to digital signage, fieldmuseum.org (including content like alerts and homepage management), as well as other ancillary web platforms, in keeping with institutional communication goals.
  • Assist with accessibility-related maintenance and content updates on fieldmuseum.org. With team members, promote web and digital accessibility considerations to other staff.
  • Work with and assist content creators for fieldmuseum.org in other departments and actively promote web standards and content creation guidelines. Assist with training and managing content creators.
  • Participate in the development of ongoing strategy for the Museum’s website, as well as the creation of resources to assist others in adhering to this strategy.
  • Collaborate with team members and other staff to manage the Museum’s presence on Google Cultural Institute, including updating existing and adding new content.
  • Assist with testing and quality assurance checks of web projects, including review of design implementation, functionality, and content.
  • Assist with responding to requests received by website users and Museum visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of professional-level experience, with demonstrated interest in museums, science, nonprofits, communications, or marketing.
  • Self-starter with some project management skills, including schedule development, tracking, task prioritization, and an ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to translate technical concepts for a general audience.
  • An eye for details and inconsistencies, both in writing and formatting.
  • Ability to keep track of many small details without losing sight of the big picture.
  • Experience using Google web apps, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with web content management systems (Drupal) a big plus
  • Familiarity with or interest in learning more about HTML, SEO, Google Analytics and Google Webmaster tools, and web-based project management platforms
  • Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style, AP Stylebook, and/or content style guides generally
  • Competent in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop
  • Interest or expertise in photography (iPhone or other) and/or video production
