MW2010: Birds of a Feather Topics

Got something on your mind?

We try to allow plenty of time in the Museums and the Web schedule for informal conversation. At past MWs, we've had "Birds of a Feather Breakfasts". But the breakfast time slot hasn't always been everyone's favourite (particularly in New Orleans).

So in Denver at MW2010 we're moving the BoFs to Friday at lunchtime.

If you have something you want to talk about, or if there are people that you'd like to connect with this is your opportunity to get a group together? Suggest a topic in a comment to this post, and we'll make sure there's a table waiting for your conversation. Don't worry, if you want to add one on-site, there will be a chance to do that too.

BoFs aren't formal affairs; you can join a table, and leave it too, if something else catches your interest. What's important is that you're engaged, you meet other people and you have a chance to explore issues that you care about.

How about a BOF on existing and emerging technologies that help museums uncover and expand revenue opportunities?

Pardon the shorthand...this thought occurred to me and when I put the note out on Twitter @museweb suggested using this as a way to suggest the topic.  I think that .gov or .mil museums getting together to commiserate is a fine idea... As a Department of Defense museum, we face unique challenges but also have access to such considerable resources, inside DoD but across all of federal medicine.  Figure that other .gov museums might also be interested in the in-person conversations.  And I for one think this covers the gamut - federal, state and local government-supported public museums, with no limitations either I think with respect to borders.  Anyway, just a thought...

Tim,

I could get behind this idea; it would be good to meet up and discuss our challenges and how we get through or around them. I'll keep an eye out for you too, it'd be good to shake hands.

I think you win the pithy subject line award, in case that's a category.

Glad to hear there is some interest and will be on the lookout for anyone from DC, too. Note, however, I won't be with Albert Einstein (seen in my profile pic) when at #mw2010.

We've scheduled lots of time on Friday for BoF discussions – at lunch-time on Friday and throughout the day.

We thought we'd lead with tables organized by type of institution in the morning (8:30 - 10:00), and go for groups by job description / responsibility during lunch (12:00 - 1:30).

There are slots from 10:00 - 11:30 and 2:00 - 3:30 open for your topics. What would you like to talk about?

Suggest a topic here, so we can schedule it in advance, or come and spontaneously label your table.
